Photoshop Composite Image

Writer's picture: Julia ChemerinskiJulia Chemerinski

In order to further narrow down the vision for my magazine, I created a composite image. I found separate images online and combined them together using a program called Photoshop. I got all the photos used off of google. Me and my class started out using Photoshop by making a composite image of a soccer player that we followed a tutorial for. I really struggled with it, but it did help me better understand photoshop and how to use it. This is it:

I started with my location of Vizcaya Museum and Gardens located in South Florida. This is the image I chose for the background.

Next, I brought in some cranes.

I used the quick selection tool to remove the background

and the select mask tool to insert the finished image

I dragged it to where I wanted it to be

and moved on to adding string lights. I used the same process as the cranes to remove the background of the lights.

The raw image then looked like this.

The last step was to edit the coloring of my composite, so I used the camera raw filter option on Photoshop. I changed the saturation, vibrance, highlights, exposure, etc.

Here are some close-ups of the lights and cranes that I added:

This is how my image turned out.

Overall, the process of making my composite was very difficult. I had already created one prior to this with my class and even though the tools and steps were familiar to me it was very hard to figure it all out. I had some trouble removing the background for the lights, but it ended up working out after I reduced the size of the tool used. It turned out exactly like how I pictured it and will help me going forward when creating my magazine.
